Fall is here and for many of us that means it’s time to gather the troops and go apple picking. Luckily, living around Atlanta means easy access to some of the freshest apples. Not only do you get some yummy eats, but you also get to make memories, snap wonderful photos, and support local farmers and businesses.
Here’s our list of best places to go apple picking in Georgia. Happy picking!
Mercier Orchards
Mercier Orchards is open daily from 9-5. In the market you can find a variety of products from fresh apples (of course) to freshly made baked goods. You can always check their online calendar for what varieties of apples are in the market at any given time. In the orchard, they typically offer u-pick apples. However, due to a harsh winter, they will not be offering this in the fall of 2021. You can still walk through the orchard. On the orchard, they grow blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and apples.
BJ Reece Orchards
BJ Reece Orchards was also hit by the frost, but they are still offering u-pick apples. They allow this until there are no more apples on trees, which is usually by late September. They also have a market open daily where you have to grab some apple cider donuts. These donuts are something I can never say no to.
Hillcrest Orchards
Hillcrest Orchards is located in Ellijay, GA. They are offering u-pick apples in the 2021 season. This seasonal orchard is only open September 4th through October 31st. Plan your visit soon. U-pick apples are offered until they’re gone. Admission to the orchard is $10 on weekdays and $15 on weekends. While at the orchard, you can enjoy a petting farm, wagon rides, a kiddie corn maze playground, and more. If you visit this orchard, grab a fried pie.
Red Apple Barn
Red Apple Barn is conveniently located in Ellijay, GA. And while all of the orchards were hit with a late frost, Red Apple Barn is still offering U-pick apples with their limited crop. Keep in mind your u-pick apples may be limited. Admission to the orchard is $9.50. Included in the admission fee is a tractor ride to and from the orchard, an apple, a cup of apple cider, an apple cider doughnut, 2 flowers, water at the orchard, rock & pumpkin painting, games, picnic areas and a playground for the kids. Make it a one-stop shop and grab your pumpkins while you’re there. Pumpkins are in the field, at the U-Pick shed and the Apple Barn.
Panorama Orchards & Farm Market
Maybe U-pick apples isn’t your cup of cider, but you still want farm fresh apples. Head to Panorama Orchards. I stop at this market a few times a year. Just an hour north of Marietta, they offer a variety of apples, seasonal vegetables, baked goods and cider of donuts, of course.
The Bottom Line
Picking apples can be an annual tradition. We are so lucky to live so close to all of these great options. So grab the family, hop in the car, and go make some memories at any one (or all) of these u-pick apple orchards in Georgia.
