Wanna getaway?
Check out our list of great weekend getaways just in time for spring break!
Hippity Hoppity Easter’s on its way and for Cobb, so is SPRING BREAK! Who’s ready? I love living here because there are so many wonderful weekend (or week long) getaway options – from the beach to the mountains. Here are some great places for you to explore.
Chattanooga, TN – Rock City
Being less than a 2-hour drive from Cobb, Chattanooga makes for a perfect weekend getaway. While there, check out Rock City. Currently, timed-entry reservations are required for all admissions, so make your reservations early. Did you know from Rock City you can see 7 states? SEVEN! How cool is that? This family (and pet) friendly park has so much to offer. The Enchanted Trail is under a mile long. The Rock City Gardens are a nature lover’s paradise with over 400 native plants and trees. Rock City is full of wonder. Take a visit and let us know what you think.
Savannah, GA – Forsyth Park
Welcome to Savannah! If you make the trip, you must visit the 30-acre Forsyth Park. This park does not disappoint with it’s massive fountain, live music, green grass, and playgrounds for the kids. Forsyth Park is home to many festivals throughout the year, too. Grab a friend and head to Savannah. The 4.5 hour drive from Cobb makes it a quick, easy trip for you and the family.
Tybee Island, GA – The Light Station
Located near Savannah, Tybee Island is a barrier island that features a still-functioning lighthouse. At 145 feet tall, it’s Georgia’s tallest lighthouse. It’s also Georgia’s oldest lighthouse. Tickets are available to tour the lighthouse, but please call ahead as weather conditions and COVID protocols can cause closures. Parking is free, but please keep your pets at home, only service animals are permitted.
Blue Ridge, GA – Scenic Railway
Blue Ridge is only 90 minutes from Cobb. Less if you live further north. It’s the perfect short getaway and has been ranked by Southern Living Magazine as one of the South’s Best Mountain Towns. While there are many things to do in Blue Ridge, the Scenic Railway is a family favorite. ALL ABOARD!!! The train ride takes passengers on a round trip path through the North Georgia countryside. The journey is a one hour trip to McCaysville, GA and Copperhill, TN where you are rewarded with a 2-hour layover to explore before taking the 1-hour trip back. Voted a 2020 Travelers’ Choice by Tripadvisor, don’t hesitate, take the trip this weekend!
Asheville, NC – Omni Grove
If you haven’t discovered Asheville, you have been missing out. Asheville, NC is about a 3.5 hour drive from Cobb. Home to the Biltmore Estate, a historic attraction, there’s also tons to offer visitors from zip lining to breweries. But whatever you do; do not skip the Omni Grove Park Inn Brunch. Several years ago, we had the opportunity to go with some friends and, OH EM GEE, it was everything you read about. There are multiple ROOMS full of food. I can’t even pick a favorite. Just go, try it, and let us know what you think.
Pigeon Forge, TN – Dollywood
At a four hour drive, you might be thinking you need a full week in Pigeon Forge, but it can absolutely be a great weekend trip, too. Located in Eastern Tennessee, Pigeon Forge is an adorable Smokey Mountain town and home to theme park, Dollywood. As with all the locations mentioned so far, there is no shortage of options for visitors and locals alike, but Dollywood draws a crowd. Spring is a wonderful time to visit Pigeon Forge. Check out this great list of things to do in and around Pigeon Forge.
The Bottom Line
Cobb County Spring Break is a wonderful time of year to do a little research and head out on a family adventure. So tell us. Where are you headed for this Spring Break?
